Happy Full Moon in Cancer, everyone! As the first full moon of 2022, and during a Venus retrograde and Mercury retrograde in opposing Capricorn when it's likely a time of turning over some of the gardens in our emotional worlds as it is, this full moon in Cancer adds another layer of vulnerability if we allow it.
The area of your life that will be most highlighted during this time will have to do with where Cancer lives in your natal chart. Even if you have no planets in Cancer, Cancer was in the sky when you were born and existed in one of the twelve Houses in the sky. (I will be writing an article soon on the twelve Houses and another on House systems, so stay tuned for that if this is still confusing for you.) If Cancer falls in your 4th House of family, origin, and home, you might be feeling a kind of rawness in this area of your life. Maybe it is time to let something or someone go or maybe there is a mindset that you need to release. If Cancer falls in your 7th House of partnership and also the shadow self, perhaps there is a need for shedding light on these sensitive spaces. Etc.
Take the time to identify where Cancer is in your chart and do a life-scan to see what this moment may be pointing to.
This full moon in Cancer has an added weight or depth to it, depending on how you look at it, as the Sun made an exact square with Pluto yesterday on Sunday, January 16. When this aspect occurs, there is some kind of connection with the basements of our own psyches as well as a cosmic conversation about power. Because one of our key ego planets (the Sun) is creating this square with the planet of all things relating to power, my feeling is that we all need to be looking at where we feel powerless and where we are seeking power or abusing it in our lives. Let Cancer make a watery home for the pain that comes with being a human being with only control over how we respond to things and the intentions that we set.
A note on ritual:
Full Moons are not really a time for manifesting, but are auspicious times for release, acknowledgement, and letting go. The full moon is the culmination of something--think of The World card in tarot--so reflect on where you were during the last full moon in Cancer six months ago and where you are now. In what direction are you moving toward wholeness? If you've moved further from personal goals, identify the things you've learned in your own retrograde.
Be kind to yourself in this process and allow the part of your chart that contains Cancer to shine tonight. Take a cleansing bath, meditate to clear your mind, or clean out an area of your space that has become confusing or cluttered.
Wear white or silver. Adorn your altar with selenite. Sleep with mugwort in your room (it is toxic to animals and people, so do this at your own discretion) to encourage insightful dreams. Eat well; full moons are celebratory. Bring those close to you into your ceremony or spend time solo in reflection.
The Full Moon in Cancer begins at 2:48PM Alaska time (6:48 EST).
